Tennessee Has a Real Chance to Advance Voucher Legislation- Thanks Trump

Joel Ebert of The Tennessean reports on Repbulican lawmaker Rep. Bill Dunn’s failed attempts to pass voucher legislation and renewed hope resulting from increase in GOP legislators recently elected.

The legislation allows for students receiving free and reduced and zoned to schools in the bottom 5% based on performance indicators to qualify for “opportunity scholarships” to private schools.

I have been agnostic about vouchers as it just never seemed Tennessee would go that route. Well, we are headed in that direction and in a few short months vouchers could be our reality.

What’s the Catch?

A lifelong member of the disenfranchised, my trust issues run deep. I know, without a doubt, there is no such thing as a free lunch and gifts come at a price.

I’d love to freely believe that families will have extended, viable options available to them at little or no cost to them. I’m not there yet.
